Our Mission
At SENSES Learning Hub, our mission is to provide education and support for 11 to 16 year olds with social, emotional and/or mental health (SEMH) needs. We believe in the power of creativity, art and outdoor experiences to engage and inspire our students. We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment that fosters personal growth and success.
Our independent studio is based within the inspirational grounds of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Students have the opportunity to achieve Arts Awards through therapeutic art and design activities; complete English & Maths Functional Skills and take part in talking therapies.
Our team
Our team consists of highly qualified and motivated professionals, who are all experts in their field. With many years of experience of working together in supporting young people to reach their potential, with our nurturing guidance & support.
Dawn Oughtibridge, BSc(Hons), PGCE, NASENCo
Director, SENCo, Creative Lead
Qualified SENCo, experienced secondary teacher and senior leader. Dawn leads on SEND, creativity, curriculum and the overall educational direction of SENSES. Dawn jointly leads on student support and safeguarding across the provision.
Merita Sulmina
Art Therapist & Specialist Teacher
Merita is a qualified teacher and art therapist with experience supporting children, young people and adults with wellbeing and emotional needs. She supports students within the studio as a Specialist Teacher and leads on the delivery of AQA Unit Awards at SENSES. She also has her own private practice for Art Therapy for individuals and families, which can be accessed privately in addition to time at SENSES.
John Fox, BA (Hons), MA
Director, Maths Lead
Qualified children and adolescent counsellor. John leads on the operational and financial management of SENSES, as well as leading the delivery and development of Maths. He also jointly leads on student support and safeguarding across the provision.
Emma Daniels
English Lead
Emma is a qualified English teacher with experience across mainstream, alternative and specialist education. She also holds a Level 5 Coaching Qualification through the British School of Coaching. With professional and lived experience of SEN and neurodiversity, Emma takes a nurturing, flexible and relationship based approach. Emma leads on the delivery and development of English at SENSES.
